Undiknas and Edith Cowan University Students Explore Bali’s Viticulture Industry at Hatten Winery for New Colombo Plan 2025
Denpasar, Bali, December 16, 2025 – Universitas Pendidikan Nasional (Undiknas) continues to strengthen its international academic network through the implementation of the New Colombo Plan (NCP) 2025. On December 16, a delegation of Undiknas students, joined by students from Edith Cowan University (ECU), Australia, conducted an academic and industrial visit to Hatten Winery, one of Indonesia’s leading wine producers. This activity was designed not merely as a tour, but as a field lecture aimed at providing deep insights into the potential of Bali’s local industry penetrating the global market, while fostering cultural and knowledge exchange between Indonesian and Australian students.

During the visit, participants were invited to witness Hatten Winery’s production facilities firsthand and received a comprehensive presentation on the wine industry lifecycle. The explanation began upstream, covering the selection and harvesting of grape raw materials grown in North Bali’s tropical climate, through to the fermentation process utilizing modern technology. Beyond technical production aspects, students were also equipped with knowledge regarding the business and management sides, including marketing strategies applied by Hatten Winery to maintain their brand positioning amidst fierce competition in the tourism and food & beverage industries. The session that drew the most enthusiasm was the wine appreciation class, where students received practical education on wine characteristics. Guided by experts from Hatten Winery, participants were taught basic sommelier techniques to distinguish wine quality. They learned to identify premium quality wine compared to standard wine through visual indicators, aroma, and taste. This session provided a new perspective for students, particularly on how quality standards are rigorously maintained to meet the expectations of both international and domestic markets.

The visit to Hatten Winery served as a pivotal agenda item within the New Colombo Plan 2025 series, which emphasizes cross-cultural learning experiences and industrial understanding in neighboring countries. Through this activity, it is hoped that students from Edith Cowan University and Undiknas return not only with technical knowledge regarding viticulture but also an appreciation for Bali’s local industrial innovation. This program further underscores the commitment of both universities to producing graduates who possess a global outlook and are ready to adapt to various industrial sectors.
