Professor Nobuo Funabiki Visits UNDIKNAS University for International Seminar on Intelligent Technologies
Denpasar, Bali, 8 October 2026 — Universitas Pendidikan Nasional (UNDIKNAS University) welcomed Professor Nobuo Funabiki from Okayama University, Japan, as a distinguished guest speaker at an international seminar entitled “Intelligent Technologies for a Smarter, Safer, and More Connected Future.” The event brought together international and local academic perspectives to explore emerging technologies, digital innovation, and their applications in addressing real-world challenges.

Professor Nobuo Funabiki’s visit to UNDIKNAS University provided an opportunity for international academic exchange between Indonesia and Japan, particularly in the fields of computer science, artificial intelligence, and intelligent systems.
The seminar featured two distinguished speakers: Professor Nobuo Funabiki from Okayama University and Dr. Ngakan Nyoman Kutha Krisnawijaya, Dean of the Faculty of Tourism at UNDIKNAS University. The session was moderated by Ni Luh Putu Ika Candrawengi, S.Stat., M.Stat., a lecturer from the Information Technology Department at UNDIKNAS University.
Exploring Digital Twin Technology and Intelligent CCTV Systems
A key highlight of the international seminar was Professor Nobuo Funabiki’s presentation entitled “A 3D Modelling Method from Panoramic Images for Indoor Environment Digital Twin and Its Application to CCTV Camera Placement.”
His presentation explored three-dimensional (3D) modelling methods using panoramic images to create digital representations of indoor environments. This approach contributes to the development of digital twin technology, which enables physical spaces to be visualized, analyzed, and represented within virtual environments.
The research also highlighted the potential application of 3D modelling in optimizing CCTV camera placement, demonstrating how intelligent technologies can support security planning and improve surveillance coverage in indoor environments.

Professor Funabiki brings extensive academic expertise in computer networks, optimization algorithms, educational technology, and web application systems. He earned his Ph.D. from the University of Tokyo and has served as a professor at Okayama University since 2001. He has also held leadership positions within the IEEE Consumer Technology Society.
His presentation highlighted the importance of integrating digital modelling and optimization techniques to develop intelligent solutions for increasingly complex physical environments.
Federated Learning: Advancing Collaborative Artificial Intelligence
The international seminar also featured a presentation on Federated Learning by Dr. Ngakan Nyoman Kutha Krisnawijaya from UNDIKNAS University.
Federated learning is an emerging approach in artificial intelligence and machine learning that enables multiple devices or organizations to collaboratively train machine learning models without requiring all raw data to be transferred to a centralized system.
This approach offers opportunities for developing collaborative intelligent systems while addressing challenges related to data privacy, distributed computing, and information management.

Together, the two presentations provided complementary perspectives on the development of intelligent technologies, highlighting how advances in machine learning, digital twin technology, and optimization methods can contribute to smarter, safer, and more connected environments.
Promoting International Academic Exchange and Knowledge Sharing
Beyond the technical presentations, Professor Nobuo Funabiki’s visit reflected the importance of international academic engagement in supporting research development and knowledge sharing.
The seminar provided lecturers, students, and academic participants with an opportunity to gain insights into emerging technologies and their potential applications across various sectors.
The event also included a question-and-answer session, providing a platform for participants to engage with the speakers and further explore the concepts presented during the seminar.

Through academic discussions and international knowledge sharing, the visit highlighted the value of bringing together researchers and educators from different institutions to exchange ideas and explore innovative approaches to technological challenges.
Strengthening UNDIKNAS University’s Global Academic Engagement
Professor Nobuo Funabiki’s visit from Okayama University represents another meaningful opportunity for UNDIKNAS University to strengthen its international academic environment and expand global learning experiences.
By organizing international seminars and welcoming distinguished scholars from overseas institutions, UNDIKNAS continues to encourage academic excellence, research engagement, and exposure to global developments in science and technology.
The seminar reinforced the importance of international academic exchange in advancing intelligent technologies and inspiring future innovation through collaborative knowledge sharing.
