VISA & STUDY PERMIT

International students (degree level – bachelor’s, master or/and doctoral, and exchange level) that study in Indonesia must have:
  • Study Permit (from Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology).
  • e-VISA and Limited Stay Permit (e-ITAS) – (from Indonesian Immigration under the Ministry of Law and Human Rights of Indonesia).

STUDY PERMIT

Foreigners who wish to study in Indonesia must obtain a Study Permit, as mandated by the Indonesian Higher Education Institution Department. This permit is mandatory for the Degree level and Student Exchange program, and is required for almost all international student permit applications. The processing time for a Study Permit application is usually 1 – 2 weeks, depending on the peak time of Indonesia’s academic calendar. Study Permits are available for various periods, including 3 months / 6 months / 12 months / 24 months, and can be extended depending on the duration of the study program.

e-VISA & LIMITED STAY PERMIT (e-ITAS)

If you meet the eligibility criteria, you will be granted an Electronic Limited Stay (e-ITAS) and a Re-Entry Permit automatically upon your arrival at the Immigration Checkpoint (you won’t have to go to the immigration office to obtain the documents). The official name for this permit in Indonesia is “ITAS / Izin Tinggal Terbatas“.

  • Duration of Stay : 1 – 2 years (extendable)
  • Validity : Upon arrival at the Indonesian airport
  • Application Process : 14 – 20 working days

Document Requirement

  • Valid Nationality Passport for at least 6 (six) months.
  • Proof of living expenses of at least US$ 2,000 (two thousand US Dollars) or equivalent.
  • Latest color photograph: Red background for study permit | White background for visa.
  • Recommendation letter from the head of the department/faculty/dean.
  • Health statement.
  • Financial statement.
  • Personal statement letter.
  • Guarantee letter from a guarantor, who is an Indonesian citizen or the educational institution where foreigners carry out education (recommendation letter or LoA).
  • Letter of acceptance from the educational institution in Indonesia that explains the length of time the foreigner will be enrolled in the educational institution (Study Permit from the Higher Education Institution Department under the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology).

FAQ

  • The duration for processing the Student Permit and Visa application is a minimum of up to 1 month. Please apply a maximum of 2 months before the start date of the semester/academic year.

     

  • This visa must be used within 90 days from the date of issue.
  • Please note that the visa validity period is different from the period of stay; kindly check your visa for the period of stay information.
