Foreigners who wish to study in Indonesia must obtain a Study Permit, as mandated by the Indonesian Higher Education Institution Department. This permit is mandatory for the Degree level and Student Exchange program, and is required for almost all international student permit applications. The processing time for a Study Permit application is usually 1 – 2 weeks, depending on the peak time of Indonesia’s academic calendar. Study Permits are available for various periods, including 3 months / 6 months / 12 months / 24 months, and can be extended depending on the duration of the study program.

If you meet the eligibility criteria, you will be granted an Electronic Limited Stay (e-ITAS) and a Re-Entry Permit automatically upon your arrival at the Immigration Checkpoint (you won’t have to go to the immigration office to obtain the documents). The official name for this permit in Indonesia is “ITAS / Izin Tinggal Terbatas“.
