Undiknas International Class Students Return to ECU: Business Development in the Kangaroo Continent

Australia – A total of 34 International Class students from Universitas Pendidikan Nasional (Undiknas), who have reached their 7th semester, have taken a significant step towards Edith Cowan University (ECU) in Perth, Western Australia. This is part of the International Enrichment Program (IEP) that provides them with valuable opportunities to delve into the world of international education and business.

For approximately 4 days, from September 5th to 8th, 2023, the students will be given an unforgettable learning experience at ECU. They will not only immerse themselves in the learning processes at ECU but also engage in the development of their skills and competencies in the fields of business, management, and accounting. This learning experience is accompanied by modern facilities, comfortable classrooms, and instruction from ECU’s top professors. During their visit, the students are invited to work on a challenging project: developing a business idea for an empty shop in the Perth CBD area.

Activities on the first day focus on introducing the students to the ECU campus environment. They get to know experienced ECU professors and gain a deep understanding of the business project they will be working on during this visit. The students are divided into interactive and dynamic groups where they get to know each other and engage in discussions. It also includes an ideation session where students are asked to generate business ideas to offer for the empty shop in the Perth CBD area. In this process, they are also challenged to identify their target audience and understand their potential customer profiles.

On the second day of the visit, they received valuable insights from ECU professors who are experts in various aspects of business. One of the main focuses is building a business image in society. Students are taught how designing a business logo and slogan can play a crucial role in shaping a strong brand image and reminding the public about the business they are developing. Having a strong image is an important initial step in competing in the competitive business world.

What’s intriguing is the enthusiasm and spirit emanating from the students during the classes. They thoroughly enjoy the discussion sessions and the presentation of materials provided by experienced ECU professors. Although the chilly morning weather in Australia is felt keenly, it doesn’t dampen the spirits of Undiknas students as they proceed with the activities on the third day. The agenda begins with a learning session on public speaking skills. Asst. Prof. Madeline, who also serves as the Director of International in the School of Business and Law at ECU, provides valuable insights into effective presentation skills. According to her, this is a crucial skill in the business world that enables participants to communicate clearly and persuasively with various stakeholders.

In addition, Undiknas students are also given insights into promoting businesses through website development. Dr. Ashlee Morgan from ECU guides them through the process of creating a website using web-based applications. This is an invaluable skill in today’s digital era, where online media presence is a key factor in the success of a business. The students not only learn the basics of website creation but also how to use tools like Canva to create appealing business visuals. This represents a creative step in conveying their business vision to the world.
