Heading Towards a World Class University Ranking: Benchmarking to Gadjah Mada University
Yogyakarta – Tuesday, 08th August 2023. Universitas Pendidikan Nasional carried out a World Class University (WCU) benchmarking visit to Gadjah Mada University, Yogyakarta. The activity was led directly by the Rector of Undiknas University and his team consisting of the Vice-Rector for Academic Development (VIRAL), Vice-Rector for Partnership and Entrepreneurship (PATEN), Institute for Quality Assurance & Accreditation (EQUAL), and International Office. Arriving at UGM, the Rector and team were greeted directly by the Rector of UGM, Vice-Rector 1, and the UGM WCU Team.
World Class University (WCU) is a term used for ranking, recognition, and assessment mechanisms for universities on an international scale given by institutions with an international reputation. Some of these ranking institutions include the Times Higher Education Supplement (THES), Webometrics, and Quacquarelli Symonds (QS).
The purpose of this benchmarking visit is to discuss readiness for QS World Class University Ranking. UGM and Undiknas University discussed necessary preparations and aim to collaborate to create an international campus that meets the standards of QS WCU Ranking. This benchmarking aims to help Undiknas develop an internationally reputable campus by achieving the QS WCU Ranking. Undiknas is committed to creating independent and resilient young entrepreneurs, prioritizing the use of technology, and based on research results that are in line with its tagline: Techno Research-Preneur University.
The Rector of Undiknas University stated, “We are committed to making Undiknas an international standard university. This benchmarking is the first step we are taking to ensure that we are on the right track toward a World Class University ranking. We really appreciate the support and collaboration from UGM in this effort.”
Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) WCU Ranking itself is an international institution that provides various services, analyses, and insights for the global higher education sector. This institution publishes annual information on ranking the best universities in the world based on six main indicators. These indicators include Academic Reputation, Employer Reputation, Faculty/Student Ratio, Citations per Faculty, International Faculty Ratio, and International Student Ratio.
