Workshop on Socio-Legal Research Methods Held by IUP Law Undiknas
Denpasar, Bali, March, 6, 2025 – The International Undergraduate Program (IUP) of the Faculty of Law at Universitas Pendidikan Nasional (Undiknas) successfully organized a workshop titled “Introduction to Socio-Legal Research Methods.” The event took place on Friday, 6 March 2026, at the SGO Building B, Undiknas Campus, Bali. The workshop was delivered by Dr. Febriansyah Ramadhan, S.H., M.H., a lecturer at the Faculty of Law and Managing Editor of the Analisis Hukum Journal. The session introduced participants to the socio-legal research approach, an interdisciplinary method that views law not merely as a set of normative texts but also as a social phenomenon interacting with various aspects of society.
During the workshop, participants were introduced to the fundamental concepts of socio-legal research, including how legal analysis can be combined with insights from other social sciences such as sociology, anthropology, politics, economics, psychology, and history. This interdisciplinary perspective enables researchers to better understand how law operates in real-life social contexts. The primary objective of the workshop was to provide students with a foundational understanding of interdisciplinary legal research methods. In addition, the program aimed to strengthen students’ research capacity and prepare them for higher academic standards in research and publication.
Another important goal of the event was to prepare students who plan to pursue further studies abroad. As socio-legal research is widely used in international academic environments, familiarity with this approach is considered essential for students who wish to engage in global academic discourse and research collaboration. The workshop attracted strong interest from students, particularly those enrolled in the International Undergraduate Program (IUP) Law Undiknas. Through this activity, the program hopes to cultivate a research-oriented academic culture and encourage students to develop critical and contextual perspectives on law.
